Soap Opera

This evening I had a lecture titled 'TV: What We Watch' at my english course
This topic quite absorbs me since I spend almost half of my time at home watching Channel V, admiring Joey G and Dom... hoho~

Mainly, this lecture is about why and how TV becomes such an integrated part in our everyday lives; how it makes outside world seems less significant
(true, I dare say)

Then in the second half, this lecture tells what TV program absorbs the most attention
Out of my surprise, it is TV drama
or in its other terms, 'soap opera' in US, 'telenovela' in Spain.

Why it's such an apple on almost everyone's eye all over the world?
disregarding distinct cultures and lifestyles

This lecture states that it's simply because they -the soap operas- deal with life as we know it.
They present universal themes, namely, love, job, carrier, family, interpersonal problems etc. .
One doesn't need to know about the culture in order to enjoy soap operas.

Furthermore, it develops character loyalty, means that we watch the show because we identify with the characters in it;
we, somehow, feel that they have some kind of similarities with us, subsequently we develop a special bond with them.

Then the best part of today's lecture arrived : quiz- essay form
I like my answers today because the questions asked my personal opinion, not merely based on the lecture given antecedently.

#2. If you could write a soap opera, what themes will you write? why?
ans. :
If I were given a chance to write my own soap opera, most probably I would present how two opposed principles can be applied in everyday lives and the wisdom to grasp which one(s).
Namely, there's a saying states 'honesty is upon everything', but in the other hand, there's also another saying claims 'what you don't know won't hurt you'.

I'd like to present how a teenage put those two distinct principles when handling daily issues, and the reasons behind his/ her choice.
I am interested in this particular theme because most of the times I find that life can be as simple as choices, yet complicated. And I want to share this to other teenagers who might comprise similar perplexity.

~ yippie... it took quite some times to put my thought in such good words,
but eventually I managed to pull it out... hurray!

Has anyone underwent the same hesitation as I do?
There are lots of wise principles and sayings out there,
some of those might just oppose one another.
How to choose the best appropiate one?

one says that 'good things happen to those who waits',
but another says that 'better things happen to those who who won't wait'

one tells us to set the bar higher hence we may accomplish higher standard
whilst another tells us to keep it real

one reminds us to create an opportunity
yet another reminds us to go with the flow

one encourages us to speak out our mind
yet another opposes with 'silence is golden'

how can we tell which one to apply in each particular issue?

...
Heck, I don't know!!
I'm not even sure that it is good to stick to one principle
'people change' , that's why.

I don't really grasp the main point about life's principles,
but by far, I'd like to switch from one principle to another.

Sometimes I like to speak out my mind, but sometimes I'd rather keep it to myself.
I like the essence of honesty, but sometimes I view it can be a bit tricky.

It's just as much as I do like to stand up for my thoughts, I realise that I share the same world with bunchs of people comprising disparate standards.
Hence I don't perceive trying to convince my standards and thoughts to others is such an advantagious act.
but quite sometimes I try to do that on my bestfriend :P.

Whatever my decision is, I can never be able to satisfy everyone's desire,
thus sometimes I don't really care when one view me depraved.

Hmm..
can it be define as a principle too?
'just keep it flexible'

because I don't want to stuck in one unjustifiable principle.
